Senior Lecturer in Informatics

Ref HS 2018/373

The position refers to the area of Informatics, which at the University of Skövde is defined as the science that addresses how information is represented, processed and communicated in artificial and natural systems, and how such systems are used and developed in order to achieve usable and effective applications and solutions for individuals, organizations or society. The positon has a specialization in the ability to teach and conduct research in modeling and predicting human behavior and interaction with, for example, industrial and humanoid robots and even with virtual agents.

The School of Informatics (IIT) collaborates with the School of Engineering Science (ING) around the growing research area of human-robot interaction and the theme of design, interaction and sustainable development. Two shared research interests are: (i) registering and categorizing human movement using kinematic information and computer vision and (ii) applying this knowledge to develop new products that improve production technology in large industries, e.g. Volvo. These mutual research interests are also being developed in studies of human-robot interaction with humanoid robots.

Specifically, the desired competence of the lecturer will include expertise in, for example, modeling interaction scenarios between humans and robots, signal processing, and using machine learning techniques. It is important that these areas of expertise can be used in interdisciplinary areas of research and education. Experience with applications to industrial contexts such as production and technological development are also highly desired.

The position mainly concerns research and teaching, but additional assignments might be included.

The qualification requirements are:

  • PhD in Informatics (or equivalent subject) or have the equivalent scientific qualifications or other professional skills that are of interest with respect to the subject matter and the tasks to be included in the position
  • proven pedagogical proficiency
  • good knowledge of modeling of human behavior
  • demonstrated experience and skills in programming
  • ability to communicate well, orally and in writing, in English.

In addition to the qualification requirements, the bases of evaluation for this position are:

  • Degree of proficiency that is required for the employment (see the qualification requirements).
  • Good collaboration ability.
  • Good knowledge of programming.
  • Good knowledge of human-robot interaction/collaboration.
  • Good knowledge of hardware development/prototyping.
  • Certificate of completed training in teaching and learning in higher education (15 ECTS) or demonstration of equivalent education.

For this position special emphasis will be placed upon:

  • Modeling human-robot interaction and collaboration

The University of Skövde strives towards ethnical and cultural diversity and equal gender distribution within all employment categories. As the majority of the employees in the subject area are men, the University especially invites women to apply for this position.

The position is a full time (100 %) permanent employment. The University applies a probationary period of 6 months.

Application deadline: June 10th, 2018
