Research and graduate education at the department of chemistry and molecular biology comprises a wide scientific field from the atomic and molecular levels all the way through cells to intact organisms. Much of the phenomena studied here impact on our natural environment and living systems. We participate in undergraduate programs in chemistry, molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, biology, marine sciences, and pharmacy.

Information about research group:

Westenhoff's research team works to resolve structural dynamics of proteins and chemical reactions. We use femtosecond spectroscopy, time-resolved x-ray scattering and time-resolved crystallography.

Job assignments

You are expected to work with the following tasks:

  • Production and purification of phytochromes.
  • Design and cloning of variants of phytochromes.
  • Biophysical and biochemical characterization of the proteins.
  • Crystallization of the proteins.
  • Design and planning of the project with special focus on optimizing the crystals and production of microcrystals.
  • Strategic planning of the project, which may involve the choice of crystallization methods, choice of phytochrome variant, choice of purification methods.
  • Close collaboration with Westenhoff's research team, especially those included in the ERC project.
  • Contribute towards fulfilling the goals of the ERC project MolStructDyn

Qualifications

To qualify as a researcher, the applicant must have completed a Swedish doctoral degree or must have a foreign degree corresponding to a Swedish doctoral degree.

Additional information about eligibility/assessment:

To be employed as a researcher you must hold a Swedish doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.

We are looking for a person who has expertise to carry out the tasks listed above. We are looking for a person who has the ability to work independently in biochemical projects and who has the driven several advanced crystallization projects to success.
