The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University combines activities on several engineering disciplines and natural sciences. The Faculty offers high-quality education leading towards bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees within several programmes in each level. In addition to the high-level basic research in its areas, the Faculty is known for its strong collaboration with industry.
The present tenure-track opening is within the Automation Technology and Mechanical Engineering Unit and the activities are divided between Tampere and Seinäjoki. In Tampere, the working location will be in Hervanta Campus and in Seinäjoki in the University Centre Frami, located next to the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK). We have close collaboration with SeAMK in research and education. SeAMK has extremely good research laboratories for the present tenure-track position, including state of the art machining centers and cyber-physical systems from Festo.
We are seeking highly motivated and accomplished applicants in the area of digital manufacturing and cyber-physical factories. The position will be filled at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor, based on the experience and expertise of the selected candidate.
We are interested in candidates who can complement our present expertise and activities in this research area. Your expertise should be based on solid research that is related to modernization of manufacturing operations and systems via emerging technologies and methods. The position can be tailored according to your specific expertise. Your research interests can focus on several different aspects of manufacturing, such as:
You are expected to pursue and supervise scientific research in the field, as well as lead, conduct and develop education in manufacturing and production engineering, especially in simulations and data analytics. Active collaboration with local, national and European research partners and companies is encouraged. Interacting with the society and acquiring external funding are other central responsibilities of the position.
You should have a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering with focus on industrial, manufacturing or production engineering and automation, or a related field. You should also have experience in scientific or technological research work in academia or in industry.

Initial appointment as Associate Professor is for five years and, subject to successful performance, you will become a tenured member of faculty staff at the end of the first five-year period. You will be supported throughout the five-year period to ease transition to faculty positions. Full professors will hold a permanent appointment from the outset. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.
Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. A typical starting salary for an Associate Professor is approximately 4600 - 4900 EUR/month and for a Full Professor 5600 – 5800 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be agreed dependent upon experience and/or performance.
