The School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in gender studies for a fixed-term appointment.
Gender Studies at Örebro University is a social science-oriented subject area with strong international ties and research collaborations. The discipline has degree-awarding powers at all levels, including doctoral level. Research is conducted at the multidisciplinary research environment Centre for Feminist Social Studies (CFS). The research in the discipline is organised within the research programme framework "Gender, Society and Change" (2015-2020), resting on a broad-based social science and feminist scientific tradition. More specifically, research is conducted in such areas as feminist policies and organisation, feminist theory, gender and academia, gender equality policy, critical studies on men and masculinities, and violence.
The duties and responsibilities for this post are primarily research, and research initiation and collaboration. Teaching of up to 20 per cent of a full-time post, including supervision and assessment of students at the Bachelor and Master levels, is also included, ar are administrative duties. The specific duties of the position include drawing up at least one project application for external research funding. This work will be undertaken in collaboration with colleagues in the discipline, with the aim of strengthening research within at least one of the following prioritised research areas: gender in knowledge production, gender equality policy, men and masculinities, and violence research.
Those qualified for the appointment as a postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in Gender Studies or other relevant discipline, or hade a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree. The doctoral degree should have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline. Candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree prior to that may however also be considered if special grounds exist (leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, an elected position in a trade union, or other similar circumstances).
General assessment criterion is the candidate's ability to communicate, collaborate, and engage with society, and to facilitate research outreach. Other general assessment criteria are the candidate´s ability and suitability to cooperate with other staff, and to contribute to the development of the university activities.
Particular importance will be attached to the qualities enabling the candidate to contribute to the discipline´s future development of both research and education.
Particular attention will be paid to documented ecperience of research collaborations and international publications. Experience of working in the prioritised research areas and a history of successful applications for research grants are considered a particular advantage. Great importance will be attached to the candidates´personal qualities, such as: ability to collaborate and work independently; physical presence in the research environment; and their interest in research development. Experience of teaching Swedish is considered and advantage.
The post is full-time and includes 80 per cent research and 20 per cent teaching or other research-related duties. The post is based in Örebro. The work cannot be undertaken elsewhere, but requires the post holder to be present and actively involved in the activities in the disciplinary environment. The salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. The starting date for the post is Autumn 2019, 1st of November 2019 at the earliest.
