Senior lecturer in nursing science combined with clinical practice as a nurse at the Clinical Skills Training Centre (KTC)

Ref no: 2.2.1-06050/2017

The School of Health Sciences at Örebro University offers a great range of professional degree programmes at the undergraduate and Master’s levels; and at the research level, a number of doctoral study programmes. In addition, an exciting process for development of our study programmes is underway. Research is pursued into people’s possibilities and needs in connection with health and disease. Both education and research is undertaken in close cooperation with public healthcare services.

Örebro University and public healthcare provider Region Örebro County are collaborating for the development of the healthcare, research and education offered at Örebro University Hospital and associated healthcare centres in the region. A significant component of this collaboration is the long-standing and fruitful cooperation on education and research shared by the School of Health Sciences, Örebro University, and Region Örebro County. As part of this collaboration, a joint investment is now underway into combined appointments within disciplines where a need for development has been identified. These positions will combine training, clinical practice and research, and aim at:

  • maintaining clinical competence in University teaching staff, and academic competence in clinical healthcare professionals
  • promoting collaboration within research and education between the University and Region Örebro County
  • supporting possibilities of creating synergies in clinical research, as well as increasing the opportunities available for interdisciplinary research
  • strengthening clinical placement modules on offer
  • strengthening evidence-based care and contributing to positive development of the operations

This position as senior lecturer involves clinical practice as a registered nurse at the Clinical Skills Training Centre within Region Örebro County.

Subject area

The position is in nursing science.

Duties and responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of a senior lecturer mainly involve teaching at the undergraduate and Master’s levels, as well as on the doctoral study programme. Teaching includes supervision and examinations. Moreover, the position involves research, development work, administration, continuing professional development, and, possibly, management duties. Duties also include collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.

In addition to the regular clinical duties, the clinical practice components include identifying the need for development work, as well as supervising and training staff and students in consultation with those concerned within the clinical operations in question. Management duties within healthcare, research and education may also be included.

You will play an important role in developing operations and healthcare, in both theory and practice, at the University but also within Region Örebro County.

Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer are applicants who have demonstrated teaching expertise and have been awarded a doctoral degree in the subject area or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve.

A general eligibility requirement for teaching staff appointments at Örebro University is that the candidate has completed courses on teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to 10 weeks. If applicable, assessments will be made of equivalent knowledge and experience that have been obtained in other ways.

For the clinical practice, experience of clinical work as a registered nurse, experience of working at a clinical skills training centre, as well as well-documented knowledge of nursing science and medicine are required.

Applicants shall be able to account for their teaching outlook and approach and have the ability to reflect on their own pedagogical development as well as on the teacher’s role.

In the assessment, attention will be paid particularly to the applicant’s focus on learning, a pronounced outlook on teaching and learning which is made concrete in their own teaching activities, as well as on an inquiring attitude where educational development activities are based solidly on research into teaching and learning in higher education.
