The position is within computer science with a specialisation in artificial Intelligence.
The employment is part of a strategic initiative at Örebro University to strengthen its basic research within artificial intelligence. The person we are looking for is prepared to take on a leading role within this strategic scheme and is committed to working in close collaboration with both academic industry partners.
Research activities in computer science at Örebro University mainly focus on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems. The research is done in close partnership with world-leading corporations such as Atlas Copco, Volvo CE, SAAB Dynamics, Husqvarna, but also with the public sector in regards to health technology. Our aim with a new recruitment is to further strengthen our research competence within computer science towards topics in artificial intelligence, including machine learning.
The University's engineering programmes within the computer science field have seen a positive development in recent years, both in terms of number of applicants and output volumes. We offer degree programmes at both the Bachelor's and Master's levels and in the Higher Education Authority's recent evaluation of higher education in Sweden, our programmes were assessed as being of a very high quality. Örebro University today offers a Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, a Master's programme in robotics and intelligent systems, as well as a new five-year Master of Science in Engineering in computer science.
Our current computer science research is undertaken as part of various projects on the regional, national and European levels and in many of the projects, work is carried out in collaboration with various industry partners. We are therefore looking for someone with the ability to work together with businesses but who is also able to set up new business contacts and partnerships, nationally and internationally, within artificial intelligence.
The successful candidate will be a member of a research laboratory team where the research focus is on the development of intelligent systems interacting with humans in their environment. You are expected to bring your expertise to a number of existing and ongoing projects concerned with developing intelligent sensor systems for use within industry, but also in smart IT-based home environments.
You will be teaching on a new Master of Science in Engineering programme in computer science as well as on the Master's programme Robotics and Intelligent Systems. In addition, your duties will include supervising doctoral students at the research division Centre for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS). Activities at AASS are mainly funded by external research grants from various national funding bodies (the Knowledge Foundation, Vinnova, etc.) and the EU. You will be working to secure continued high levels of external research funding. You will also be contributing to the development of the computer science department through active collaboration other research teams within AASS, as well as with other Swedish universities and industry.
Those qualified for the appointment as professor are applicants who demonstrate research as well as educational expertise. A general eligibility requirement for teaching staff appointments at Örebro University is that the candidate has completed courses on teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to 10 weeks, or has obtained corresponding knowledge in some other way.
The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor shall be the degree of the expertise required to qualify for employment. Equal weight will be given to the assessment of educational expertise as to the assessment of research expertise.
Candidates’ research qualifications shall be demonstrated through independent research contributions, quantitatively as well as qualitatively, mainly within the area of specialisation that applies for the position. Candidates’ research expertise shall moreover be demonstrated by means of a continuous high level of academic output.
Educational expertise and qualifications shall be well-documented and accounted for in a teaching portfolio. In the assessment of educational expertise, great attention will be paid to well-documented teaching skills and experience, primarily on engineering programmes. Experience from course and programme development within engineering is considered an additional qualification.
Great attention will paid to the ability to attract substantial external funding as well as experience from planning and leading research. Documented experience from applying for and receiving research funding from the main funding bodies for the discipline, such as the EU, the Knowledge Foundation, and the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet), is considered an additional qualification of particular significance, as is documented experience from pursuing collaborative research projects with industry partners.
Very good English communication skills are mandatory and an ability to communicate in Swedish is an additional qualification. Candidates should have very good command of one of the languages Swedish or English.
