Mid Sweden University is a place where people meet, find inspiration and think innovatively. Our campuses are situated in Sundsvall and Östersund, and we offer a wide range of courses and education, both on-campus and distance education. Our good relations with society ensure well-supported research and education, not least in the region.
Faculty of Science, Technology and Media
The Department of Electronics Design is situated at Campus Sundsvall. In addition to its research activities, it offers courses and programmes in the subjects Electronics, Electrical engineering and Sound production. The research of the department is conducted at the research centre STC (Sensible Things that Communicate, www.miun.se/stc).
The research center STC (Sensible Things that Communicate www.miun.se/stc) announces an open postdoctoral position in the MiLo project – Environment in the control loop. The research will be made in collaboration with industrial partners in a larger project that integrates the technology challenges within environmental monitoring for the following application areas: Airports, Waist deposits of cellulose fibers, Industries and Winter sport facilities.
You will actively collaborate with researchers in the group Visual Sensor Systems (VSS), but also with other colleagues in the department. Your research work will focus on multispectral imaging and analysis within wavelength region NIR/SWIR (0.9-2.5µm) for characterization of large area surfaces covered with snow, ice or water. Characterization of snow and ice is an important research topic to support studies on environmental and climate changes. Such changes will have a direct impact on e.g. winter sport facilities, which have inspired us to study the use of advanced metrology for improved maintenance of large surfaces. We believe that the same metrology can be used for characterization of airport runways at winter conditions. Multivariate analysis of multispectral image data using artificial intelligence is an indirect measurement method that we believe can give characteristic information about surface conditions. Can we measure and get such information good enough to enable improved maintenance of large area surfaces? A post-doctor is a senior researcher who will also assist in supervising PhD students within the same research group.
Required qualifications and selection criteria
To qualify for an employment as a post-doctor, the applicant must hold a PhD degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a PhD and the PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application due date; however, for example, periods of sick leave or parental leave can be deducted from the three-year period. For this position, it is required to have a PhD in electronics, electrical engineering or computer science with a specialization in image analysis, artificial intelligence, metrology or similar areas. Skills in signal or image processing, embedded systems, electronic system design and sensor networks are meriting.
Employment: One year full-time employment.
