Professor of English Literature

Mittuniversitetet, Faculty of Human Sciences, Avdelningen för humaniora

Mid Sweden University is a place where people meet, find inspiration and think innovatively. Our campuses are situated in Sundsvall and Östersund, and we offer a wide range of courses and education, both on-campus and distance education. Our good relations with society ensure well-supported research and education, not least in the region.

Faculty of Human Sciences

The department of Humanities currently comprises six subjects: English, History, Comparative Literature, Religion, Swedish, and Swedish as a Second Language. Both English and History have a doctoral programme, while Comparative Literature, Religion, Swedish have courses at advanced level.

Duties: In addition to conducting research within English Literature and teaching undergraduate, master’s and doctoral courses, the professor is expected to collaborate with colleagues to develop research, courses, and contacts with the community of relevance to research and education. Therefore it is essential that the professor is present at the workplace. The professor is also expected to play an active role in the doctoral programme and in attracting research funding. Adminstrative tasks also form part of the duties.

Eligibility and assessment of candidate qualifications: Applicants are required to have a PhD in English Literature and must be able to demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical expertise in the subject (Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4). The applicant must satisfy the requirements according to university guidelines (miun.se/anstallningsordningmiun.se/huv/handlaggningsordningar).

One research profile of the English subject is ecocriticism, therefore research experience within this field is of particular merit. Moreover, as our courses at undergraduate and advanced level are taught not only on campus but also as net-based distance courses, experience of net-based teaching is also of merit.

Information: Further information is available from the Head of Department, Tomas Berglund, tel. +46 (0)10-142 81 65, tomas.berglund@miun.se, Head of English, Terry Walker, tel. +46 (0)76-232 52 16, terry.walker@miun.se, Director of Studies, Martin Shaw, tel. +46 (0)72-506 58 33, martin.shaw@miun.se.
