Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.
The Department of Building Technology is part of the faculty of technology at Linnaeus University and has extensive collaboration with business partners in research and education. The department works together with neighbouring departments – Forestry and Wood Technology, Built Environment and Energy Technology and Mechanical Engineering – to create a creative environment with challenging educations and outstanding research. The four departments have a total of around 110 employees, including 20 professors. Research in the field of building technology includes structural engineering, timber engineering, building physics, maintenance and monitoring of structures, life cycle analysis, CAD/BIM and construction materials.
The department currently offers a Bachelor’s program in Building Technology, a Bachelor’s program in Architectural Engineering, as well as a two-year Master’s program in Sustainable Structural Engineering. The latter was started in autumn 2019 and was developed based on a former one-year Master’s program. Recently, Linnaeus University was granted permission for offering five-year civil engineering educations and the department is currently developing such a program within the field of building technology. This challenge requires that new personnel are recruited. The current position for a Senior Lecturer in Steel Structures is an important part for strengthening the departments teaching and research competence in the field of building technology.
The departments strengths include research and teaching in the above-mentioned fields of building technology, a well-equipped experimental laboratory, high number of externally funded research projects and close collaborations with business partners in the building sector. This gives a Senior Lecturer in Steel Structures great possibilities for developing research and teaching in this area at Linnaeus University.
Field of subject for the appointment: Senior lecturer in Building Technology with specialization in Steel Structures.
Placement city: Linnaeus University, Växjö, Sweden
Scope of appointment: 100% permanent position
Job description
The Senior lecturer is expected to work with teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as with carrying out and participating in research projects and administrative tasks, in the field of Steel Structures or adjacent areas. Examples of focus areas relevant to the position are conceptual and structural design of different types of steel structures and questions related to stability and dynamics of steel structures. The candidate’s fields of interest should span from material properties (steel and other metallic materials, e.g. aluminum) to analysis and design of load bearing elements, connections and structures. The goal is in particular to develop education on the graduate level and strengthen the research groups expertise within structural analysis and structural design with a focus on steel. Development of a five-year civil engineering education in building technology is of priority for all senior lecturers and professors at the department. Working tasks include teaching, development of courses, supervision of students and research in the areas of steel structures and structural design. To apply for external research funding and contribution to research projects, as well as supervision of doctoral students will be a natural part of the tasks. The position may also include administrative tasks at the department.
