The Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Technology offers teaching in mathematics and mathematics education as part of approximately 20 course programmes. Research is conducted within mathematics, applied mathematics, and mathematics education.
The appointment includes research, teaching, supervision, course development, course coordination, and examination in mathematics education. Teaching is both campus-based and on distance, with both free-standing courses and courses included in the Early Years’ Education Programme, the Primary and Secondary Teacher Education Programmes and the Special Needs Teacher Programme. The appointment may also include administrative tasks, and participation in external projects such as further education and skills development for practising teachers of mathematics. Teaching is conducted in Swedish.
In the first two years of the appointment, 50 % will be allocated to research.
The successful applicant for the position as senior lecturer has proven expertise in teaching and has been awarded a doctorate in mathematics education, or supplemented a doctorate in mathematics with strong research qualifications in mathematics education. Alternatively (s)he may document equivalent scientific qualifications in the field of the position.
The notion of teaching used above is to be understood in a broad sense and includes planning, implementing, and evaluating classroom and distance education as well as supervision and examination.To qualify for this appointment, the applicant must also be able to teach in English. The applicant is expected to be able to successfully participate in situations where flexibility and cooperative skills are of great importance.
As indicated above applicants are assessed on the basis of their scientific qualifications as well as their pedagogical experiences and qualifications. These two sets of qualifications are considered of equal importance.
Academic and professional qualifications in special needs education in mathematics are of merit, as is experience with teaching at university level. Further, the ability teach in Swedish is of merit. As most teaching is conducted in Swedish, the chosen applicant is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within a few years.
When the university is to appoint new teachers, the applicants are to be selected who, through a qualitative assessment of the whole picture regarding competence and skills, are considered to have the best qualifications for the implementation and development of the tasks in question, and for contributing to a successful development of the activities.
