What you will do

We need you as a Scientific Director to translate your vision on Data Science, AI and Data Platforms into new R&D lines that build upon and go beyond the current activities of OnePlanet Research Center’s existing programs: Precision Agriculture & Food and Precision Health, Nutrition and Behavior. This means that you will have the unique opportunity to initiate the development of AI technologies that support people to live a more healthy and pleasant life, and also to help and improve the efficiency and wellbeing in the Agrifood domain. Your work will be at the forefront and crossroads of research, strategy, and business development. Based on inputs from latest scientific insights, university partners (WUR and Radboud), business development and from customer discussions you synthesize a shared vision and translate that into a R&D strategy and value proposition for OnePlanet and it’s customers. In this position you will:

• Develop a scientific roadmap on Data Science, AI and Data Platforms, building on OnePlanet’s innovative sensors and enabling new applications by intake of feedback from internal and external stakeholders, industry, academia and with understanding of future markets.
• Pursue novel applications of technologies and establish new research areas to address current and future global challenges.
• Define, together with the research team, the requirements for a range of different projects. You conceptualize innovative methods and break-down research tracks into de-risk steps.
• Contribute to and continuously benchmark the program with imec’s solutions strategy and offering on AI.
• Continuously benchmark the program with respect to the international state of the art.
• Radiate OnePlanet Research Center’s proficiency at conferences, seminars and other events, and participate in the adequate scientific eco-systems.
• Lead the research experts to international excellence and recognition in this field.
• Write and contribute to proposals, project status reports, technical white papers.

Who you are

You have a broad view on Data Science and AI linked to application areas in the Precision Agriculture, Food & Health domains. Building upon your scientific legacy you have an excellent technical understanding of innovations in this domain. We expect solid experience and interest in defining R&D roadmaps while at the same time you get energized and inspired by close and frequent contacts with current and future customers. When engaged you have the communication power to convincingly present the program contents both to internal and external stakeholders. To qualify for this challenging new position, we expect the following:

• An established research track record of international recognized scientific achievements and an international scientific network in data science.
• An outstanding principal researcher or professor, with entrepreneurial and business-oriented skills.
• A PhD degree in AI, Augmented Reality, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Data Analysis, or related fields.
• A well reputed and often invited speaker on (inter)national conferences, web/sem-inars and relevant events.
• Solid understanding of the corresponding challenges and technologies that face this industry.
• Strong interest and vision on the existing domains of OnePlanet Research Center: Precision Agriculture & Food and Precision Health, Nutrition and Behavior.
• A team player with a positive can-do mentality who can transform scientific opportunities into tangible results.
• Excellent communication skills, that you will use to interface with internal and external customers.
• Someone who enjoys working in multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teams.
• An excellent command of the English language.
