The Department of Engineering and Physics at Karlstad University in Sweden, is looking for a post-doctoral researcher in Materials Physics for a European research project on perovskite solar cells. The research group has a strong profile in polymer- and hybrid solar cells, a stable funding trackrecord, and a wide international network of collaborations. The present project is founded by the Swedish Energy Council and EU commission (SOLAR-ERA-NET) and is a collaboration with four other European research groups.
The research group at Karlstad University is well equipped with modern facilities for fabrication and electrical characterization of solution-processed photovoltaic devices, and a variety of techniques for morphological, optical and surface characterization of materials. The group also uses X-ray photoemission and absorption spectroscopy at synchrotron facilities.
We are looking for a skilled experimentalist with experience with perovskite solar cells to participate in a European research project on lead-free perovskite-based photovoltaics. The overall aim of the project is to achieve high performance and stable solar cells and in particular to contribute to the understanding of the interface physics and materials aspects of this new type of solar cells. The post-doc is expected to participate in the above described research project, write publications and participate in research conferences. The experimental work includes the study of energy level alignment at interfaces by means of UV-photoelectron spectroscopy and Kelvin probe, the material analysis by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning probe microscopy, and the fabrication and electrical characterisation of solar cells. Furthermore, the work will involve collaboration with the project partners through exchange of samples and results, discussions, meetings and visits.
To be eligible for the position, applicants are required to hold a PhD degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, or in another related and for this project relevant discipline. The candidate must have completed the doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline, unless special grounds exist.
Research experience with perovskite solar cells as well as excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Practical experience with photoelectron spectroscopy is a particularly important asset. Excellent interpersonal skills, experience in planning and organisation of experimental work, and an excellent ability to work in teams are strong assets. Experience with ultrahigh vacuum equipment, scanning probe microscopy techniques, Kelvin probe, and electrical characterisation methods are assets. The candidate needs to have the possibility to travel to research facilities in Europe for periods up to four weeks, and to participate in international conferences. Selection is on the basis of individual assessment.
The position is a full-time position for 15 months. Possible extension beyond that time (total max employment is 2 years) is subject to additional external funding. Starting date is as soon as possible or upon agreement.
